He’s been one of my personal heroes since I was in 6th grade. The sheer strength of character he displayed throughout his life is a rare thing to behold.
Mandela, 95, passed away today after spending months in the hospital, followed by home rest.
He was South Africa’s first black president, and a Nobel Peace Prize laureate. He was imprisoned for 27 years and fought tirelessly to end apartheid in South Africa.
His death was formally announced by current South African president Jacob Zuma.
